The Burning Lantern Festival in Lhasa / 2016-2017 / oil on canvas / 220cm×390cm

Lhasa is renowned for its strategic importance on the Silk Road across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as well as its core role in disseminating Tibetan Buddhism. Every year, the Burning Lantern Festival is one of the most special festivals featuring ethnic characteristics and spiritual values in the holy city Lhasa, which was set to commemorate Master Je Tsongkhapa and boasts a history of about 600 years. At every winter night of the festival, countless people holding lanterns in their hands walk through the Barkhor Street to the Jokhang Temple to commemorate the sage, pray for welfare and reflect on themselves. After so many years, that warm and auspicious atmosphere still moves the artist.
