The artist was inspired by the significant role which the Silk Road played in the development of the civilizations of the East and West, from China to the Mediterranean Sea. The painting is a glimpse of the history of peoples, nations and civilizations connected through that ancient network in a mutually profitable and creative relationship. It is a glimpse of that unique network of communication and of cultural and religious interactions among China, the South Asian Subcontinent, Persia, Europe, the Horn of Africa, Arabia, Turkey, Syria and Russia.
