Veterans / 2014 / Resins, wood / 120cm×70cm×200cm
Appreciation: During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Chinese soldiers were used to fighting for the territory integrity and the dignity of the nation. Nowadays, most of them are already passed away or on the verge of death. What they strived and sacrificed makes our happy and peaceful life, but we tend to forget their efforts. The resins sculpture, Veterans, by Chinese artist Zhang Zheyu, creates two ordinary and authentic veteran figures of the Second Sino-Japanese War in hyperrealism style. They dress in plain old clothes and look senile, but still salute as they used to do. In fact, we should salute to these nameless national heroes.(Wang Yong)
