Dream of the World / 2010 / acrylic on canvas / 140cm×280cm
Appreciation: In 1955, during the Bandung Conference in Indonesia, Prime Ministers from China and India advocated the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Now, in Indonesian artist Tatang B. Sp’s acrylic painting, Dream of the World, we can find an armed soldier wearing camouflage uniform with a gloomy face and the words “Force” and “to come and to conquer” on the dark and rusty left hand side; on the bright and green right hand side, there is a healthy man with happy expression in a T-shirt featuring the figure of John Winston Lennon and the words “Peace”, “war is not answer” and “La Vita E Bella”. Both the words and pictures express our weariness with war and our dreams towards peaceful coexistence.(Wang Yong)
