Tao Qin pointed out in her speech that despite the raging global pandemic, the 2nd Dafen International Oil Painting Biennale was still held as scheduled, which was encouraging. This should be attributed to the achievements we made in battling Covid-19 under the strong leadership of CPC Central Committee and the efficiency of the Organizing Committee, hosts and organizers of this Biennale.
Home and Co-existence, the theme of this Biennale, were key words distilled from our long-term interests in and reflections upon international landscape, environmental protection, resource crisis and other global issues. It was highly relevant, grasping global trend and responding to the idea of a community with a shared future for mankind put forward by President Xi Jinping. The Covid-19 Pandemic that caught us all by surprise in 2020 made this theme even more important and inspired artists from all over the world, which explained the large number of artworks submitted by artists at home and abroad.
Liang Yu, council member of China Artists Association, Vice President of Guangdong Artists Association and member of Leading Party Members Groups and inspector of Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was delivering a speech.
Liang Yu emphasized that culture was the soul of a city and a symbol recognized by the world. After four decades of development, Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) created miracles in industrialization, urbanization and modernization, while carrying forward and advancing urban culture. With great vitality, Shenzhen witnessed the development of art industries, the building of art galleries and an increasing number of artists and their fruitful results.
Wu Shukun, Secretary of Leading Party Members Groups and Director of the Standing Committee of Longgang District People’s Congress, was delivering a speech.
Wu Shukun said in his speech that this year marked the 40th anniversary of Shenzhen SEZ, and that this Biennale and the 9th National (Dafen) Youth and Middle-aged Oil Painting Exhibition opened not long ago were cultural gifts given by Longgang District to celebrate this anniversary.
Yu Danya, a representative artist from Singapore, was delivering a speech.
Yu Danya said in her speech that works exhibited in this Biennale were submitted by artists from all over the world and selected by a professional judge team. They were of high academic and aesthetic value. Every work had a unique perspective in culture, tradition, idea or vision, which might be a new experience for artists. This Biennale was designed for artwork appreciation; more importantly, it was a platform for the exchange of creative ideas. She believed that artists could build friendship through this event and embrace unlimited potential in art through exchanges, mutual learning and common development.
